Business Development Manager

Port Coquitlam, BC
Permanent, Full Time

The Opportunity

We're seeking a Business Development Manager to lead our partnership growth strategy with Greater Vancouver's homebuilding and design community. This is a relationship-building role, not a traditional sales position.

Your mission: Develop strategic partnerships with builders, interior designers, and architects who refer their clients to Clever Quarters. You'll be the face of our company in the industry, attending events, hosting educational sessions, and building the network that fuels our growth.

Our design team handles consultations and closes sales. Your focus is building and nurturing the partnerships that keep our pipeline full.

What You'll Do

Build Relationships (80% of your time):

  • Develop and maintain partnerships with builders, designers, and architects throughout Greater Vancouver
  • Attend industry events (HAVAN, trade shows, design forums) representing Clever Quarters
  • Host lunch-and-learns, showroom tours, and educational sessions for potential partners
  • Be our consistent presence in the homebuilding and design community

Generate Qualified Leads (20% of your time):

  • Book qualified consultation appointments for our design team through partnership referrals
  • Track and nurture your partnership pipeline using CRM systems
  • Maintain consistent communication with active and potential partners
  • Provide feedback to leadership on market trends and partnership opportunities

Who We're Looking For

Your Background:

  • 5+ years in B2B sales, business development, or partnership management
  • Experience in residential construction, home improvement, interior design, custom cabinetry, building materials, or related industries
  • Proven track record of generating referral-based business or partnership leads
  • Understanding of how builders, designers, and architects operate and make partnership decisions
  • Comfortable using CRM systems for relationship and pipeline management

Your Network & Approach:

  • Existing connections within Greater Vancouver's homebuilding or design community, or demonstrated ability to build networks strategically
  • Comfort with face-to-face relationship building at industry events and partner meetings
  • Long-term thinking about partnership development (not transactional mindset)
  • Natural connector who introduces people even when there's nothing immediate to gain

Your Working Style:

  • Self-directed and organized, you manage your own schedule and priorities
  • Professional presence and excellent communication skills
  • Comfortable representing a premium brand
  • Energized by building relationships over time

Practical Requirements:

  • Based in Greater Vancouver with reliable transportation
  • Available for occasional evening events and weekend trade shows
  • Comfortable working on-site from our Port Coquitlam location (this is not a remote or hybrid role)

Important Note on Role Structure

This position focuses on partnership development and lead generation. You'll book qualified consultations and hand them to our design team, who manage the consultation process and close sales.

If you prefer to control the entire sales cycle from start to finish, this role may not be the right fit. However, if you excel at opening doors, building trust, and connecting the right people, and you're energized by long-term relationship building, this is an exceptional opportunity.

Compensation & Benefits

Total Compensation: First-year OTE typically ranges from $80,000 to $120,000, with top performers exceeding $130,000.

Our compensation structure includes:

  • Competitive base salary
  • Performance-based bonuses tied directly to qualified leads generated and channel growth
  • Quarterly bonuses for overall B2B channel performance
  • Annual partnership excellence recognition
  • Uncapped earning potential

Additional Support:

  • Monthly car allowance for Greater Vancouver travel
  • Monthly expense budget for networking, industry events, and business development activities
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits (after 3 months)
  • 3 weeks paid vacation
  • Professional development support for courses, certifications, and conferences

We believe in rewarding strong performance while fostering a team-oriented culture, not an aggressive transactional environment.

Why This Role Matters

We're at a strategic growth point. Over 20 years, we've built an excellent reputation, but our B2B partnership channel currently represents only about 10% of our business. We know it should be 30% or more.

This isn't a role where you're one of many on a sales team. You'll be the person representing Clever Quarters in Greater Vancouver's homebuilding and design industry. You'll work directly with company leadership, have autonomy over your approach, and be measured on the quality of partnerships you build.

If you're currently in supplier sales, builder support, or design industry business development and you're looking for more autonomy and upside, or if you're a construction professional with strong relationship skills ready to transition into partnership development, this could be the right next step.
